Houston residents who enjoy the music of pop singer Beyonce may also enjoy celebrity news about her family, including her husband, Jay-Z, and their young daughter. But even her most devoted fans may not have heard about a conflict in her immediate family. Beyonce's father, Matthew Knowles, is currently involved in a dispute over child support. Yes, the father of Beyonce and her younger sister, who is in her late 20s, also has a 4-year-old son.
Knowles became the subject of family controversy when he had an affair while still married to Beyonce's mother. She filed for divorce in 2009. The affair resulted in a pregnancy, though the relationship didn't last. Therefore, Knowles has been ordered to pay $12,000 per month to support his young son. It appears he has followed through on that obligation, at least until a few months ago.
The young boy's uncle has accused Knowles of failing to make his last few monthly payments. The father is scheduled to appear in court this week to settle the matter.
Whether or not Knowles denies the uncle's accusations that he's a "deadbeat" dad, it's worth noting that he has never met the child. There are plenty of Texas parents who owe child support and don't have a relationship with their children. This lack of a connection can be frustrating for both parents. The custodial parent may feel compelled to deny visitation time to an ex who isn't supporting his children, and the non-custodial parent may feel less inclined to make payments for a child he doesn't know. To make sure that children don't suffer the negative effects of such battles, it may be beneficial for parents in child support disputes to work with an attorney who focuses on family law.
